On the doorstep of the Kalahari

Kamelruhe Guesthouse in Gochas is located on the Auob riverbanks, overlooking the dry riverbed presenting spectacular views, sunrises and sunsets over the Kalahari. The setting is ideal for a relaxing getaway or an overnight stop after a long tiring journey.

In the 1800's the German Schutztruppe had an outpost where Gochas is today. On the site where Kamelruhe stands currently, were soldiers and officer barracks and stables for their camels to rest and be fed before they continued on their patrol of the Kalahari and Botswana desert (region), and from there the name Kamelruhe "Rest Place of the Camels".

Several German and Nama war memorials can still be seen in and around the area.
